Jonas - 2.5 years

Lately both Cory and I have been feeling that our little monkey Jonas is just that a little monkey trying to see what he can get a way with. He has been a little frustrating to deal with, I think partly because he is a stubborn 2.5 year old and perhaps he feels the need to act out because of all of the changes in his life (ending daycare, moving, new baby). Like the other day, he just had a shower and I didn't put his diaper on right away and then he peed in our closet. He came out of the closet and tells me 'Mommy, I peed in the closet!' So I think he knew exactly what he was doing! Then, not more then a half hour later, he tells me 'Mommy, I cut the covers!' And indeed he cut our duvet cover (not a big cut but still) so I have to make sure that his scissors are put away and I supervise him more closely when he is using them!

Anyway, our big boy is 2.5 years this month so here is an update of his life:

• Ht: 35 inches
• Wt: 27 lbs. (still assuming he is the same)
• Clothing: mostly size 2 (24 M), shoes: size 6 & 7
• Size 5 pampers/2T pull-ups
• Favorite Movie: Has been getting into watching longer movies! Really loves Toy Story 1,2 & 3. Started watching Bolt. Still likes Cars and Wall-E
• Favorite Book: Grandma Halwa gave Jonas a bunch of Tonka truck books and he has been obsessed with them lately. He is really good at identifying what machine is what!
• Favorite toys: He loves being outside! He loves going to the park and quite often he brings his loader and dump truck with him and fills them up with rocks. He also likes playing on his bouncy slide & likes having water fights with mommy. He is obsessed with all of his machines (trucks, loaders, Mack truck etc.). He loves his Buzz Lightyear and Woody figurines and anything Toy Story!
• Favorite Food: It still has been a struggle to get Jonas to eat. Lately he has been eating lots of 'mush' (porridge). He still likes his bananas, apples, noodles, muffins, carrots, cucumbers and sometimes meat (done on the BBQ). His favourite treat are slushies and chocolate covered raisins.

• Other:
o Since moving into our new place, Jonas has become really good friends with the 3 year old boy next door named Thomas. He calls Thomas his 'buddy' and 'my Thomas'. It has been a blessing to have such wonderful neighbours!

o Bedtime is still a challenge. We are at the stage where he doesn't takes naps but sometimes should because he gets really grumpy. If he does nap, then he goes to bed super late.

o Still likes his Ipod and I think he can operate it better than I can (well perhaps not quite).

o Still loves to sit in the van and car (and Grandma's Jeep or Auntie's car) and 'drive'.

o Loves his baby brother and smothers him with kisses. When Emmett is crying he will run to him and say 'It's ok Emmett' or he tries to put in a soother (but Emmett never likes the soother). He also loves to hold Emmett. Jonas will also shake Emmett's arm or leg and say 'This is your arm or this is your leg'.

o Still points at all of the airplanes that he sees in the sky (and now there are more since we have moved to Beaumont). And now whenever he hears a big truck, he runs to the window to see what it is.

o Still refuses to use the potty and pull-ups and tells us that he wants diapers on. (We have to work on this one again). When we do change his diaper and it is poopy, we tell him it is gross and that he should be using the potty (and now he has started saying the same thing when we are changing him - mocking us)!

• Quotes/sayings Jonas commonly uses (his vocabulary amazes Cory and I):

His favourite word is 'what'? I think he uses it so much because he knows that we don't really like it & I know that he can hear us the first time!

Mommy (As Emmett is crying in the other room where Jonas just was): 'Jonas, is Emmett ok?'
Jonas: 'Mommy, he needs you.'

Emmett @ 5 weeks

It is amazing how fast time does go and how fast my little baby is growing! Emmett was 5 weeks yesterday!

Here is a little update of his life thus far:

- Weighs about ? - we still have to weigh him but at his 2 week appointment he weighed 9 lbs. 4 oz.
- Wearing 0-3 month clothes & some 3-6 month clothes
- Just upgraded to size 2 Pampers
- Pukes up a lot. Jonas spit up a lot whereas Emmett is a puker. He doesn't puke everyday but when he does, it is a lot and both of us have to change our clothing.
- Gets the hiccups pretty much after every feeding
- Dislikes the soother; he will take it sometimes but usually when I try to give it to him, he gives me a disgusted look and clenching his gums together.
- Likes his baths
- Has started cooing
- Starts grunting when he is hungry and if we don't get to him in time, then he will start crying
- Grunts when he is feeding (he is so loud when he eats, lol)
- We like to think that he is smiling at us but perhaps it is just gas!
- He does like to look around a lot more now and he especially likes to look at Jonas
- Has a dimple in his chin plus a little dimple in his right cheek
- Sleeps a lot and has a good 5-6 hour sleep at night
- Has had his first little cough and a pusy eye
- Got his 1st mosquito bite plus a few more - not fun!
- Went to his first wedding
- Went on his first long car ride (to High River, AB, about 4 hours) and did really well - slept most of the time and woke once to eat
- Has had lots of visitors & met a lot of people in his first month

Some pictures that I'm sharing with you:

Introducing Baby Emmett Logan!

We are delighted to announce the arrival of our son Emmett Logan, born June 28th @ 5:16pm, weighing 8lbs. 7 oz. and 20.5 inches long. Even though it has been a couple of years since Jonas was born, we are re-learning what it takes to care for a newborn! It definitely is a different kind of adjustment with the 2nd one! Cory is home for 2 weeks which has been a blessing but I'm dreading the day he goes back to work and then I have to take care of 2 kids all by myself!

The birth of Emmett didn't go exactly how I imagined it but I guess they never really do. It all started on Monday (June 28th), Cory and I went to the Grey Nuns at 8am so I could be induced. I had mixed feelings about being induced, for one, I was never induced with Jonas so I thought why should I be induced with this baby, and also, I heard that when you are induced the contractions are way more intense! But this baby wanted his own unique birth story and so I was induced! I was induced with Cervidil (so no drip, thank goodness) and had to stay in the hospital for about 3 hours so they could monitor the baby and myself.
At about 11:30 am, I was allowed to leave the hospital (no progress of labour, though the Cervidil takes a few hours or so to kick in). I was feeling good so we decided to run some errands. First Cory and I went out for breakfast/lunch at Cora's, then we went shopping and Walmart and Costco. Mild contractions started in Walmart and then while in Costco, the contractions started to get a bit stronger and were probably 5 minutes apart. I told Cory that we should hurry home to unload (since we had some frozen items) and then go back to the hospital. Oh, before we went home, we stopped at A&W for lunch (I had a craving and I was worried that if I didn't eat now, who knows when I would be able to eat). At home, my contractions were about 3 minutes apart, consistently for about 1 hour so onward to the hospital we went!
It was about 3:30pm when we made it to the hospital. I first had to wait and get checked out in the assessment area. At this point the nurse told me that I was only 1cm dilated! Then they monitored the baby and myself for about an hour, baby's heartbeat looked good. Against the advise of the other nurses, my nurse decided that instead of sending me home (since I was only 1 cm), she told me to walk around for an hour and then she would assess me again (this was at 4:30pm). I walked around the labour ward for about 30 minutes and with the help of my wonderful husband, I was able to cope through the contractions. The contractions started to get more intense and I kept thinking - 'I'm only 1 cm and these contractions are brutal, how I am going to do this - damn Cervidil!' Then my water broke and another nurse had to check me (our original nurse went on break because she thought she had some time before she had to check me again). So just after 5pm, I was at 9 cm and the nurses rushed me into the labour/delivery room and at 5:16 pm (4 minutes of pushing), baby Emmett came into this world! It happened so fast that both my doctor and my doula missed the delivery! A resident doctor actually delivered Emmett! So there you have it - Emmett's arrival into this world! We are so blessed!
